Babel Academy operates in accordance with the Education Act and the regulations of Sierra Leone's Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), covering Junior Secondary (JSS1–JSS3) and Senior Secondary (SSS1–SSS3).

Admissions

Five steps to enrolment.

Entry into JSS1 is open to pupils who have completed primary education. Entry into SSS1 requires a valid BECE certificate meeting the school's minimum grade requirements. Pupils applying to other classes are placed by a placement assessment and prior school records.

  1. Collect the formObtain and complete the Admission Form from the school's administrative office.
  2. Submit documentsReturn the form with all required documents and the Le 200 Admission Form fee.
  3. AssessmentThe pupil may sit a placement assessment and/or attend an interview, where applicable.
  4. Offer of admissionSuccessful applicants are notified and issued an offer of admission.
  5. RegistrationComplete registration by paying applicable fees and signing the Handbook's Acknowledgement of Receipt.
  • Completed Babel Academy Admission Form
  • Birth Certificate (original for sighting, plus a copy)
  • Most recent school report/transcript
  • Transfer Certificate or Testimonial of Good Conduct
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs
  • BECE result slip/certificate (required for SSS1 entry)
  • Copy of parent's/guardian's valid identification
Admission Form fee: Le 200. Payable at application, non-refundable whether or not admission is offered or accepted.

  • School shirt/blouse and tie, as prescribed for level/class
  • School trousers (boys) or skirt/pinafore (girls)
  • School jersey/cardigan for cold weather
  • Plain white or grey socks
  • Black leather shoes, well polished
  • Approved PE/sports kit

A full uniform set costs Le 1,500, available through the school.

Dress code rules

  • Uniform worn neatly — shirts tucked in, ties properly knotted
  • Boys keep hair short and trimmed; girls' hair neatly styled
  • Make-up and nail polish not permitted; small stud earrings only
  • Shoes black and properly polished at all times
  • PE kit required for sports and physical education
  • Improperly dressed pupils may be sent home and marked accordingly
Academic Programme

From JSS1 to WASSCE.

Babel Academy follows the National Curriculum Framework prescribed by the MBSSE, preparing pupils for the BECE at the end of JSS3 and the WASSCE at the end of SSS3. Three terms make up each academic year.

Report cards are issued at the end of each term. Parents/guardians review, sign, and return them to the class teacher at the start of the following term.

School Rules & Code of Conduct

Fair, progressive, and clear.

Every pupil is expected to be courteous, honest, punctual and diligent — both within and outside the school premises.

Strictly prohibited

  • Weapons of any kind
  • Alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substances
  • Fighting, bullying, or threatening behaviour
  • Theft or vandalism of property
  • Cheating, plagiarism, or exam malpractice
  • Abusive, indecent or discriminatory language
  • Leaving premises without authorised permission
  • Pornographic or inappropriate material

Disciplinary procedure

  • Verbal caution and counselling by staff
  • Written warning, recorded and notified to parents
  • Detention or temporary withdrawal of privileges
  • Suspension, following Disciplinary Committee review
  • Expulsion for serious or repeated offences

Babel Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice, including impersonation and collusion.

Health, Safety & School Life

Cared for, and kept busy.

Health & First Aid

A first-aid facility treats minor injuries and ailments. Parents provide emergency contacts and disclose any medical conditions, allergies, or medication needs.

Child Protection

Babel Academy safeguards every pupil's welfare in line with the Child Rights Act. Concerns are reported confidentially to the Principal or Safeguarding Officer.

Attendance & Punctuality

Gates open 7:30 a.m.; assembly and gates close 8:00 a.m. Pupils should arrive by 7:45 a.m. Illness beyond two days requires a medical note.

Mobile Phones

Devices are discouraged; where unavoidable, they're switched off and handed in at the start of the day, for collection at close of school.
